Chi's sweet home by Konami Kanata

Chi's Sweet Home, volume 1This week I attended a library conference in Toronto.  One of the sessions I went to was entitled "Graphic novels-new titles and new audiences".  The speaker was the owner of The Beguiling Books and Arts store in Toronto and basically gave a whole bunch of book talks in the hour and a half that was allotted to him.  I was inspired, intrigued and curious by many of his recommendations and also about his store.  There are plenty of comic book stores in the world but I've never heard of one specializing in graphic novels.
So, after the conference ended at lunch (with a finale talk by the infamous JIAN GHOMESHI from CBC!!!!) we decided to trudge through Toronto's grimy winter streets to The Beguiling.
AMAZING!!!  Two stories of comics and graphic novels, piles of new releases and obscure titles, even a whole SECTION of graphic novels en francais!
We browsed the store for a time and I ended up purchasing this Manga book designed for kids.  The book features a lost little kitten, Chi, who is adopted by a loving apartment-dwelling family.  Chi has many adventures in the course of the book which include:

  • Learning how to use a kitty-litter box
  • Learning how to live without her mother
  • Going to the veterinarian
  • How to hide from nosy landlords
  • Playing with household items

I recommend this cute kitty for children of all ages.  If your kid knows how to read, they are ready to experience Chi!

  1. This book has been so popular in my home, we keep stealing it from each other, trying to read just one more chapter. Very cute.
